Congratulations to Shirlkeymu L. Winston, associate professor of African American History, for recently earning her doctorate degree from Howard University in history (African Diaspora).

Winston expressed that her journey was not easy.

“The path to achieving a Ph.D. is definitely not an easy one,” Winston said. “Nevertheless, you attempt to seek motivation through its necessity and encouragement from those who have already completed the journey.”

Winston earned her undergraduate degree in history with a concentration in education and a master’s degree in history (African) both from North Carolina Central University.
