First HBCU Ultimate Team Info Session
August 17, 2022 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm
First HBCU Ultimate Team Info Session: 8/17/22 at 4 p.m. on the Steps of the Cheshire Building!
Do you want to part of history and another “HBCU first”? Are you a good all-around athlete who likes high-paced, action-filled sports? Do you want to put your skills and the SAU brand up against the likes of UNC, NCSU, and Duke on the playing field?
If so, the sport of collegiate Ultimate might be for you. Ultimate, formerly known as Ultimate Frisbee, is a fast-growing, non-contact sport played with flying discs with the objective of scoring points by passing a disc to a teammate into the opponent’s end zone. The Triangle area of North Carolina is rich with Ultimate talent. The University of North Carolina (UNC) men’s and women’s Ultimate teams are both defending national champions. The area also boasts two professional teams that play in Durham. High-profile Ultimate matches have even been broadcast on ESPN.
Check out this press release that just came out on HBCU Game Day about the new SAU Ultimate team, click here.
The team will hold tryouts starting in August and plans exhibition matches against local collegiate teams this Fall. Official collegiate tournament play will begin in the Spring of 2023. An information session is scheduled for Wednesday, August 17th at 4 p.m. on the steps of the Cheshire building. Be prepared to toss a few discs!
Learn more by contacting Dr. Mark Janas at mjanas@st-aug.edu.
Note: If you are in the Fall 2022 Sport Management Senior Seminar, your assigned project will involve the Ultimate team, BUT you may try out for the team as well. Varsity athletes are not excluded from participation, pending any practice/game conflicts.
