Commencement is May 4!
The Class of 2014 will walk across the stage during the commencement ceremony on Sunday, May 4 ready to embark on a new journey. Commencement is set to begin at 9 a.m. in the university quadrangle. This year’s commencement address will be given by Dr. Darryl Scriven. A native of Jacksonville, Fla., Scriven received a full scholarship to Florida A&M University and earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and a joint degree in philosophy and religion. Scriven was awarded the prestigious Coca-Cola Foundation Fellowship to complete his graduate study. He earned a master’s degree in philosophy from Purdue University and was the first African American to earn a Ph.D. in philosophy from Purdue.
He is the author of seven books, executive producer of three documentaries and is the co-founder of the African American Family Enrichment Institute. He delivers dozens of lectures each year and continues to be active in the academic community. Dr. Scriven has been invited to speak to audiences in Africa, Europe, Australia, Hawaii and all across United States.
He is married to the Rev. Dr. Latricia Edwards Scriven and they are the proud parents of Destini, Faith and Samuel.
